I had the pleasure of getting a exclusive interview with Lauren Ashley for you to check out below…
How did you get your start in the interior design and event planning business?
While attending the Art Institue of Houston to get my bachelor’s degree in interior design I opted to intern with an event planner vs a design firm. Because to me, they are one and the same, but that’s where my passion for weddings was discovered.
Along your journey have you had any mentors who have helped you along the way? If so what was the best advice you have been given?
Of course, the best advice I received was never stop learning. Which is why I attend at least two workshops a year one for weddings and one for interiors to stay on top of things.
We are all going through various emotions during the COVID-19… How are you keeping yourself inspired during this time?
My faith and knowing I’m doing exactly what I was put here for. I recently left my job at the Post Office. It would have been 10 years on yesterday, but I still have clients projects in the works. Even a few discovery calls this week so COVID-19 ain’t stop this show!
If you had to choose, which industry would you prefer to work in; Weddings or Interior Design?
Clients reading, I love you all! BUT If I had to choose one it would be Interior Design. I did get my degree in the field.
Tell our readers about your new E-book; All Signs Point To Design.
I created this book for the new interior designers coming up like myself. I never knew about #HPMKT even while attending design school. I was invited to attend as a panelist and asked why are you going? Why not? It has been a game-changer for me and I want new designers to know and not feel what I felt.
What advice would you give other people who are thinking about getting into your field?
Don’t do it for the pretty pictures. There are so many man-hours that go into that picture, phone calls, emails, and etc. Expect long hours, little sleep, BUT in the end, it will all be worth it.
Who is your dream client and why?
My dream client is Beyoncé because my client now good friend, Kamaria knows it’s going to happen (laughs).
What’s next for Lauren Ashley?
I’m currently renovating my home office for the One Room Challenge! Stay tuned to see all the behind the scenes on our IG stories and blog post.
What’s a quote that you live by?
Nevertheless, She Persisted! When I get pushed back a few steps, denied a chance, or let down, I will persist and keep moving forward.
