A Reflective Journey

A Journey of Growth, Inspiration, and Purpose in D.C.

D.C. has been more than I could have ever expected. While I’m here for work, I made sure to sprinkle in some much-needed self-care, fun, and education. This weekend, I had the privilege of visiting the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African American History and Culture—and wow, what a profound experience it was.

The exhibits moved me deeply—from the highs of witnessing the resilience of my ancestors and seeing how we overcame slavery to an awe-inspiring moment: seeing Sheila Bridges, an African American interior designer, celebrated within the museum.

As many of you know, I studied Interior Design and hold a bachelor’s in Fine Art in Interior Design. In my experience working toward my degree, there was little to no representation of African American influences in the professional teachings or textbooks. To see Sheila’s work recognized on such a grand stage reminded me that I’m not just learning and growing—I’m part of a much larger story. It reignited my passion and commitment to continue on this journey.

While in D.C., I’ve had the honor of meeting some incredible individuals and sharing my own story. One question I was asked that stuck with me was, "What has been your favorite project?"

Without hesitation, I replied: Designing George Floyd’s Daughter Room.

If you’re new around here, let me give you a little background: four years ago, right after the protests for George Floyd, the family reached out to me about designing her space. At that time, I was scared and uncertain, overwhelmed by the weight of the movement and how I could contribute to moving the needle. I wanted to fight for justice, but I wasn’t sure how. This project showed me MY way forward—through the power of design.

As a designer, I believe that everyone deserves a space to recharge, especially our frontline worriers and those fighting for change. Whether I’m designing a peaceful sanctuary or creating the perfect setting for a celebration, my mission is to offer a place of respite. After all, we all need a space to let loose, relax, and then get back to the front lines to move the needle forward.

Before I wrap up, I’m excited to share some recent news! While I’ve been away, I received a new press feature in Apartment Therapy. As the year comes to a close, it’s a great time to reflect on how far we've come, and to appreciate how far we’ve come from where we started. I’d love for you to take a read and share your thoughts with me—feel free to reply to this email with your feedback! I read them all!

As I close out this trip, I’m filled with gratitude and inspiration, especially after seeing Sheila Bridges' work at the Smithsonian. She’s an icon, and it made me reflect on the legacy I’m building. I too am on my way to making history.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I’m more motivated than ever to keep pushing boundaries, creating spaces, and fighting for a more inclusive future. If you’re ready to create hit the button below.
