When to Contact an Interior Designer
Some feel it should happen after the construction phase…
Laugh first, but then ask yourself how could this have been avoided? As an Interior Designer we first have to make the design FUNCTIONAL. Pictured above, it is clear that they CANNOT use their washer and dryer. The door swing of the refrigerator will always hit the machines. It’s just ALL wrong! During the design phase designers think all these things through and discuss with the clients why somethings may not work, BUT offer suggestions that will accommodate the clients needs.
When you’re building a home ESPECIALLY a custom built home please consult with a designer!
Before you contract sit down with a designer and go over your floor plans. They can help with things you didn’t think of or wouldn’t notice until you are in the home. It’s also best to have them at the selections meetings. That way you don’t have to work backwards and just build on top of the selections down the line.
Some feel they should contact after they’ve bought all their key pieces—NO! Your designer can offer your key pieces and then some. I know right now with the supply chain in a complete mess it can be extremely frustrating waiting on items. Trust, we get it too! Clients are now on our roster 2 and 3 times longer, BUT in the words of my father, ‘If it’s done right the first time, you don’t have to redo it.’ Patience is a virtue! Your home isn’t a temporary fix and neither should your fixings and furnishings.
Lastly, and I’ll get off my soap box. Some feel they are to far from their financial goals to hire one, but just like any other goal you should research and make a plan to obtain. Book a FREE Discovery Call and/or consultation to get all the information you need to prepare for hiring your designer.
Ok, I’m done. At least for now ;) These images are from a Designer Facebook Group. Let’s just say we’ve collectively seen it all.
Enjoy the Journey,
